SNMC to introduce centralized system to collect medical waste

In an attempt to prevent lapses in the disposal of medical waste in Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC), Agra, officials have decided to introduce centralize collection of medical waste and also place big boxes across the campus.

According to sources, medical waste poses a serious threat to patients, bystanders and staff at SNMC as it is usually found lying openly on the premises. Family members of the patients claim that the hospital staffs throw medical waste here and there without a second thought to the potential risk it poses. They also claim that this also attracts stray dogs and monkeys that cause much hardships to patients and bystanders alike.

However, medical college officials claimed that the private company which has been entrusted with the task of disposing medical waste is doing it regularly and the waste that is found lying scattered is due to the negligence of some staff members.
